Studio Policies 2021-2022
Teaching and music are my passion. Whether you are a K-12 student or adult recreational player you will find a supportive and nurturing environment. Lessons range from 30 minutes to an hour and follow a rigorous curriculum designed to prepare students for comprehensive music study. Musicianship, theory, history, and performance skills form the backbone of each lesson. Whether we are exploring traditional classical works or more popular fare, students will discover the joy in music.
Attendance and Make up lessons: Students are expected to attend their lesson, recitals and collaborative lessons. Due to the active and vibrant schedule of my studio, I am not able to offer make up lessons. I am able to offer lessons through zoom if you are not able to come to the studio. Zoom lessons will not be offered for collaborative lessons. If you foresee an ongoing issue with scheduling, let me know and we will find a solution.
Group Lesson: Several times throughout the school year there will be collaborative lessons. Students are expected to attend these group lessons. All lesson times are announced in August so you may plan your schedule accordingly. Students are placed in their group lessons based on age and skill level. During group lessons students will get the chance to work with their peers on ongoing projects, play in front of audiences regularly, and much more. On the weeks that there are group lessons there will be no regular lessons during the week.
Inclement Weather Policy: In the case of inclement weather, lessons will be cancelled and students will be credited for the missed lesson on their next invoice. When deciding whether or not to cancel lessons I will follow the Hillsboro School District, however, I will send an email to all students confirming if lessons are indeed cancelled.
Practicing: Students are expected to practice at least 5 times a week. The amount of time spent in each practice session varies depending on curriculum, student’s developmental age, and level of student. Parents are expected to schedule weekly practice times for the student, and are highly encouraged to practice with younger students who would have difficulty practicing on their own.
Parent Teacher Conferences: During the months of November and March parents are required to attend a short parent/teacher conference. These will be scheduled on two different Saturdays and at no charge. If you are not available either of the days, you may come in for the first 5 minutes of one of the lessons that month to meet with me.
Summer Lessons: In order to keep students engaged and to avoid the set back often encountered in the fall summer lessons are required. If you have vacations scheduled during your lesson time, see me.
Tuition: You may choose to pay for your lessons monthly, every 12 weeks, or one payment at the beginning of the school year.
- If you choose to pay for the entire year with a single payment, you will be given a 5% discount. Your payment will be due on the first lesson of the year.
- If you choose to pay every quarter you will be given a 3% discount. Your payment will be due the first lesson of each quarter and will be for a quarter of the tuition for the whole year.
- If you choose to pay monthly, your payment will be due on your first lesson of the month. Payments made monthly will be 1/12th of the tuition for the whole year. Payments will be made by cash or check. Payments will always be the same amount, whether there are 5 lessons in the month or 2.
I will email a billing statement out before your next payment is due. If I do not receive tuition by the end of the second lesson after the due date a $10 late fee will be added to the bill. If I still do not receive the payment by the beginning of the third lesson, lessons will discontinue until payment has been received.
Books: Because copying music is illegal, students will be required to have their own books. The cost for any books I give your student will be added to your next invoice.
Food, Drinks, and Gum: Food, drinks, and gum will not be allowed in lessons under any circumstance. Please make sure your or your child’s hands are clean before the start of the lesson.
Cell Phones and Other Electronic Devices: The use of cell phones and any other personal electronic devices is prohibited during lessons. All devices must be turned off or silenced so they do not distract the student.
Covid-19 Procedures: Please see my website for detailed policies and procedures related to Covid-19.
