For the love of teaching and music

Meet Your Teacher

Alicia Barrett

Based in Hillsboro, Oregon, I am a professional pianist, music educator, and member of both Music Teachers National Associations (MTNA) and Oregon Music Teachers Association (OMTA). Following the successful completion of a Bachelor’s degree in music from the University of Oregon (3.61 GPA), I relocated the Hillsboro area where I have, for the past ten years, managed a thriving private piano studio, have been the music director for Theater in the Grove musical productions, and have continued my work as a performing artist.
I am committed to excellence and to that end I offer a comprehensive musical curriculum. I believe that students study music so that they can make music. To engage a wide range of students, I blend traditional art music keyboard repertoire with sources from the vernacular, particularly from the realms of jazz, the film industry, and popular music. Whether a student is professionally bound or more of a recreational player, I encourage students to perform often for diverse audiences. Musicianship and performance practice topics are carefully woven into my course of study as well. My goal is to challenge students to grow in knowledge and skill and to discover how inspiration can meet rigor.

To The Student (K-12)

Learn to play your favorite pieces, explore new composers, and take an occasional field trip to live productions around the Portland area. Collaborate with friends by playing duets, attending piano parties, and performing at playing classes. Learn to play piano in a challenging, active, and energetic environment.

A Word to Parents

As a graduate of the University of Oregon School of Music and Dance, I hold a Bachelor’s of Science degree in music. My teaching and educational background have informed my studio curriculum to prepare students for studio recitals, MTNA Syllabus program, and the occasional contest. To ease parents’ busy schedules, I offer a variety of times. Scheduling is easy.

Lessons are based upon a rigorous curriculum to expand your playing and provide you with opportunities to enhance your joy of music. You may choose weekly or bi-monthly lessons. Noon-hour and evening times are available to working adults.
